After a break of nearly a decade, last October we returned to the Visayas in the Philippines. The Visayas were the first region we dived in this lovely country and we were delighted to go back and see some of the dive sites again and explore some new ones from the comfort of a liveaboard, the Philippine Siren.
The most exciting part of the trip was the Sardine Run at Pescador island but the entire region was fabulous. There are new galleries and updated pages for the whole area at:
Diving video: the Fuji Finepix F500 EXR in the Philippines
The Philippines are a great destination for underwater photography and videography as the conditions are generally easy and the water is calm. We rarely encountered any currents so it was a great opportunity to test the latest Fuji compact camera. Apart from being highly tactile, the F500EXR was easy to use with a simple and accurate manual white balance that works on video.
Some may disagree, but there is nothing quite like travelling on a liveaboard when you are in a far-flung destination. Floating on a deep blue sea, exploring little known corners of the planet and no hassles getting from one dive site to the next. Siren has comfy cabins, a well- designed dive deck, lots of storage space and far too much great food. What more could you ask for? Read our boat review here...
