The tragic news of the demise of the great Larry Smith was announced today. This is a heartwrenching event for all those that knew him. We have written a couple of personal tributes (on www.divephotoguide.com and in Australasian Scuba Diver) if anyone would like to learn what a powerfull effect this one man had on our lives. Our thoughts are with Dewi and Breezy and the rest of Larry's family. |

Vlad Soto hits Sri Lanka for a community dive project Our Mexican dive guru-buddy, Vlad has been in touch: Hiya, we're looking for volunteers and good souls to come down to Sri Lanka and lend a hand. paavima.org is a grass-roots organization (basically a bunch of diver friends) trying to help out a community in need. We're using dive training to enhance the locals' means to earn a living and plan to build an amazing underwater memorial and artificial reef. We're seeking dive instructors, English teachers (no experience needed) and anyone willing to spend 2 hours, days or weeks in a tropical paradise giving of themselves. Dive 2006 - Birmingham SeaFocus will be at the Birmingham Dive Show on October 14-15. Footprint have taken a stand to showcase Diving the World again. We'll be on 1552 - and there'll be the occasional glass of champers to oil the wheels and celebrate the guide's 6 month anniversary. |

Belitung Island Andi Rispada Purba, previously the manager at Lembeh Resort, has let us know that he is now in charge of the only 4 star resort on an almost unknown island in Indonesia. Belitung is less than an hour north of Jakarta. LorInn Villas sit on the stunning Tanjung Tinggi beach. As yet there is no dive centre at the resort - but we will be heading out there next April to help research this area. Watch this space for updates. |

Archipelago Adventurer Our old dive buddy Andy Shorten has thrown in his hand with a new liveaboard outfit. He's taken on the role of Business Development Manager and will be based in Bali and the Banda Sea, a bit of a far cry from London life and the Boatman pub will be a quieter place. |
