Hairy squat lobster

Descending over a shelf and slope to about 12 metres, we found a thick carpet of crusting corals, sponges and tunicates. The water was thick with waves of fusiliers and baitfish and looking down into the deeper part of the reef we could just make out an enormous Bumphead parrotfish.

Hovering in the cracks and crevices near a cluster of rocky pinnacles were blue-ringed angelfish, sweetlips, batfish and several types of grouper then, heading past this area, to reach the other side of the site, we swam over a ridge swept by strong currents to a second area of pinnacles. These were completely plastered with soft and black corals. Swarms of schooling fish made it a very impressive vista and we thought we had seen the best of Little Komodo until we entered a cavern that was flooded with rays of sunlight.

Research on this dive site has resulted in a number of records being broken for fish species sightings.
