Gili Ringgit is in the Lombok Channel, a really pretty area of turquoise water dotted with white-ringed, tiny green islands. There can be some hefty currents so you have to pick your time to dive. On this one, the current dropped enough for us to look at all the tiny critters. There were masses of them on the sand, in soft corals, on rocks and barrel sponges – where we spotted this small pink crab.
We first knew it as a Siagian crab, a slightly incorrect nickame as it is actually a hairy squat lobster, Lauriea siagiani, and named for one of Bali's first dive guides, Wally Siagian.
